Rotary Udyog Red Cross Blood Bank

The Indian Red Cross Society, Karnataka State Branch has started a new Blood Centre at Ravi Kirloskar Hospital under the name Rotary Udyog Red Cross Blood Bank.

The centre is now open for blood collection and distribution, further enhancing our mission of saving lives and serving the community.

Key Activities

Voluntary Blood Donation Drives

We champion 100% voluntary blood collection, organizing regular donation camps through mobile teams and community outreach.

Advanced Testing & Processing

All donated blood is rigorously tested for HIV I & II, HBsAg, HCV, VDRL, and malaria. Blood grouping and antibody screening are done using automated Chemiluminescence Immunoassay (Vitros 3600 Analyzer).

Component
Separation

To maximize the utility of each donation, we offer component separation services, including packed red cells, platelets, plasma, cryoprecipitate, and platelet apheresis.

Support for Vulnerable Patients

We provide free blood supply to patients with BPL Card Holders, Cancer Patients, HIV/AIDS, thalassemia, hemophilia, and other critical conditions.

Round-the-Clock Operations

Our center operates 24/7, ensuring timely support during emergencies and routine medical needs.

No Replacement Policy

Blood is issued without insisting on Replacement Donations thereby relieving anxiety to patients relatives and friends during critical time

The Red Cross Blood Center, Bengaluru, serves as a cornerstone of Karnataka’s healthcare infrastructure, delivering safe, high-quality blood and components to patients across the state. As a Model Blood Bank/ Regional Blood Transfusion Centre to 35 Blood Storage centers, we are proud to lead with innovation, integrity, and a deep commitment to public service.

Who Can Donate Blood?

Blood donation is a simple act of kindness that can save lives. At the Red Cross Blood Center, we welcome healthy individuals who meet the following criteria :

Eligibility to Donate

Age: 18 to 65 years
Weight: Minimum 45 kg
Health: Free from major illnesses and not on regular medication
Lifestyle: No history of cancer, sexually transmitted diseases, or recent blood transfusions
Women: Not pregnant, breastfeeding, or menstruating at the time of donation

A healthy male can donate every 3 months, and a healthy female every 4 months. All donors undergo a brief health screening before donation to ensure safety for both donor and recipient.

Why Blood Donation Matters

Blood is irreplaceable—it cannot be manufactured. Every unit donated can be separated into components and used to treat up to three patients. Your donation supports:

Emergency care: Trauma, accidents, surgeries
Cancer therapy: Platelets and plasma for chemotherapy patients
Chronic illnesses: Thalassemia, hemophilia, sickle cell anemia
Maternal health: Managing severe bleeding during childbirth
