People affected by disasters have urgent immediate needs which must be assessed and addressed consequently in the fulfillment of its mandate. Indian Red Cross Society must have trained volunteers. IRCS, KSB have taken initiative to provide training to Youth Red Cross units, IRCS members, youth club members, NSS Officers, Sevadal, Police Department personnel, Volunteers, Civil Defence and home guards. Trainings are conducted with the financial support from Revenue Department, (Disaster Management) Government of Karnataka.


MAIN OBJECTIVES



  • Initiate, formalize and develop District Disaster Response Team
  • Initiation to develop Block Disaster Response Team
  • Make available trained human resource during disaster across the state
  • Introduce the concept and share the experience among the participants
  • Plan out the future capacity building training events for the DDRT team

ACTIVITIES AND TRAINING



Training has been conducted for a batch of 50 Volunteers in 29 Districts drawn fromdifferent walks of Life in Disaster Response and First Aid,during 2013-14.

Funds Raised for Calamity Relief Works



1. Orissa Cyclones 1999 Rs. 14 lakhs donated by Philanthropists and organisations

has been sent to Indian Red Cross Society, Orissa State.

2. Gujarat Earth Quake 2001 Rs.1 Crore donated by Philanthropists and organisations

has been sent to Indian Red Cross Society, Gujarat State

3 TSunami Relief Activity(Tamilnadu,

Andhra Pradesh and Kerala) 2004-05

Rs.3.5 Crores donated by Philanthropists and organisations has

been sent to Indian Red Cross Societies in Tamilnadu,Andhra Pradesh

and Kerala states

4 Floods in North Karnataka -2009 Rs.64 lakhs donated by Philanthropists and organisations has been spent on

rehabilitation works at Bagalkote, Bijapur and Raichur districts

5 Tsunami Relief Activity Japan – 2011 Rs.4.40 crores donated by Philanthropists and organisation

has been sent to Japanese Red Cross, through National Head Quarters.

 

6 Uttarkhand Flood Relief 2013 Funds Mobilised to the tune of Rs.95 lakhs for the rehabilitation works.
